FOOD FOR FAMILIES PROGRAM |
The Food For Families program was started in the Garland area by Good Samaritans in 2002. Since then, hundreds have been fed by the generosity of the North Texas Food Bank which delivers a truckload of food to a parking lot filled with voucher-holders on the third Thursday of each month. Other agencies participating in the FFF program are Friendship House of Garland and Network of Community Ministries in Richardson. The agencies provide volunteers to sort and hand-out the food as delighted customers drive past. Each month the bounty is different, and often fun items, such as popcorn, show up in the delivery. As many as 200 vouchers are redeemed on a monthly basis, benefiting an average of four people per voucher. The program is entirely free to customers and to participating agencies. |

Occasionally companies in the area send volunteers to help out with the Food For Families program. In September, 2006, Janice Lawrence, along with several hale and hearty men, came out from Bovis Lend Lease in Dallas to give us a hand. Working together to help others is a great way to build friendships. If your organization or company would like to send a volunteer group, please contact the Director of Good Samaritans at 972-276-2263 or send an email to goodsamofgarland@verizon.net . Thank you Bovis Lend Lease for a fun day and a lot of hard, hard work! We appreciate you! |

Bovis Lend Lease Volunteers Make FFF Fun for Everyone! |
 |
|
| On September 21, 2006 we were honored to have guest volunteers from Bovis Lend Lease of Dallas to help with the hard work of the Food For Families parking lot/voucher program.
|
Representing Bovis Lend Lease were Janice Lawrence, Keith Allen, Mark Southwick, Jonathan Gonzales, Robert Ferrell , and Mike Pointer.
Not only did they show up in matching blue shirts, but they dug in, got dirty, got sweaty, and had a ball. In spite of cool weather and a little rain, they stuck it out to the end, not leaving behind one scrap of trash or one hand unshaken. Standing near where Mike Pointer was handing out heads of lettuce, he was overhead telling every customer to “have a great day”.
All this help was truly appreciated and we hope other groups will follow their example. Bovis Lend Lease ….you're welcome back anytime … we love you!
