A Message from the President of
Good Samaritans of Garland, INC.
2006 has been a year of difficult decisions, but also tremendous excitement. We have a solid foundation laid down by dedicated past board members, passionate volunteers, hardworking directors, and generous churches, businesses and individuals. It is now time to build upon that foundation with an optimistic vision of, and firm dedication to, a great future. A future of more and better delivery of nutritional, rental and utility assistance; more and better programs that grow and change with community needs; training and other programs targeted at helping people help themselves; and a vision of being a key player in the lifting up of the entire community.
As I see it, the level of our success is dependent on how well we achieve these objectives:
- A diverse board, with a broad range of talents, skills and backgrounds
- A dedicated board, where continuity of mission and vision extend beyond the term of it's members
- A robust board and staff able to aggressively adapt services to meet the ever changing needs of the community
- A broad base of operating funding from partnership with churches, corporations and individuals who share our compassion for those in need
- A larger and more functional facility suitable for an expanded base of services
None of these objectives will be easy nor quick to achieve. I am happy to report, however, that our board is growing in both number and diversity. Also, in October, we will implement our first new program in some time - a nutritional program made possible by a $10,000 grant from Kraft. And to top it off, you are visiting a web site that was built from the ground up - a significant accomplishment, made possible by input from every board member, and many generous volunteers.
Many challenges lay before us; as does a great future. God created each of us with different resources and talents. Please consider partnering with Good Samaritans of Garland by sharing your resources and talents with us.
GALATIONS 5:13
You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. |
